A crane at the Hollywood Academy of Arts and Sciences construction site collapsed Wednesday afternoon, near almost hitting an apartment building.

Officials closed down streets near the scene at 17th avenue and Van Buren. It fell just two feet away from a two-story apartment building.

According to residents, the operator seemed to have lost control of the crane, but somehow managed to prevent it from hitting the building.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Neighbors also said the crane was squeaking excessively last night.
